چکیده

The development of the field since the Osaka conference is desribed c nce tra 'ng entirely on experiments with polarized ion beams presently available g i 9 , 1 1 ( L , L , Na). Their internal structure is sufficiently different to demonstrate the richness of the field. Main topics are: Coulomb scattering of aligned projectiles which deliver new information on dynamical electric mu1 tipole moments, quasielastic scattering and fusion around the Coulomb barrier which gives an insight into the correlation of the real and the imaginary part of the optical potential and its energy dependence around the Coulomb barrier, p01 arized heavy ion scattering we1 l above the Coulomb barrier with the main emphasis on folding potentials and the role of static and dynamical spin dependent potentials.

The Heidelberg polarized alkali source

2014 An atomic beam source for negative polarized lithium ions is operated at the Heidelberg EN-Tandem since 1974. A highly efficient surface ionizer is used. Vector and tensor polarized beams of 6Li (I = 1) and 7Li (I = 3/2) have been produced with currents up to 150 nA of Li3+ at the target. The second rank tensor polarization of both beams is calibrated absolutely. Preliminary results of pro...

Developments in the Measurement of Spin-polarized Fragments Using Β-nmr at the Nscl

The measurement of ground state magnetic dipole moments of nuclei far from the line of β stability can provide much needed information on the progression of single-particle states to test current nuclear structure models. Since the observation by Asahi et al. [1] that spin-polarized nuclei are produced at angles away from the central beam axis in intermediate-energy heavy-ion reactions, signifi...

Nuclear Thermometry

The concept of a nuclear temperature was introduced some seventy years ago in pioneering works performed by Bethe [1] and Weisskopf [2]. The goal was to describe the formation and the decay of a compound nucleus in reactions induced by light projectiles, mostly neutrons. Later on, the concept of a nuclear temperature was extended to reactions involving highenergy projectiles and heavy ions [3]....

We discuss the effects of fast nuclear excitations on heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies near and below the Coulomb barrier. Using the fusion of two 40 Ca nuclei as an example and the inversion method, we show that the mass renormalization induced by fast nuclear excitations leads to a large surface diffuseness in the effective potential for heavy-ion fusion reactions.

Probing anharmonic properties of nuclear surface vibration by heavy-ion fusion reactions

Describing fusion reactions between O and Dy and, between O and Sm by the sd− and sdf− interacting boson model, we show that heavy-ion fusion reactions are strongly affected by anharmonic properties of nuclear surface vibrations and nuclear shape, and thus provide a powerful method to study details of nuclear structure and dynamics.
